What types of issues does Balanced Kids work with?

We support families in a wide range of needs, from tantrums, to sibling rivalry, diagnosed challenges, building routines, coping with loss and more. Contact us today to discuss if we’re the right fit for your family.

How do I get started?

Send us an email at nina@balancedkidsnj.com and we will schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation. During this time, we will discuss your concerns and how Balanced Kids can support you.

What strategies or techniques does Balanced Kids use?

Balanced Kids utilizes a variety of strategies and techniques, some of which you can read more about on our service pages. Remember, every family is different and not all strategies are the right fit for everyone. Balanced Kids works with you to identify and acquire the skills that fit your unique parenting style and your child’s needs.

Do I have to sign up for multiple sessions?

Nope! You may feel a 30-minute phone call is sufficient to help you plan a difficult conversation to have with your child, or maybe you would prefer some in-home coaching. Balanced Kids customizes its services based on client needs and preferences.

My child does (fill in the blank). Should I be concerned?

There are many factors to consider when thinking about whether a concern falls within the wide range of “normal” development. Balanced Kids can help you understand your child’s individual needs and identify strategies that support and foster their development.

I am not sure what sort of support my family needs. What now?

While Balanced Kids founder, Nina Essel is a licensed mental health professional, Balanced Kids services are not meant to replace therapeutic treatment. Balanced Kids will make referrals where appropriate and will work in coordination with other service providers.

Am I limited to 1:1 coaching or does Balanced Kids offer group services/support groups?

No limitations here. One-on-one coaching is one option for families looking for individualized support, but Balanced Kids also provides group coaching and workshop services.

Generally, how old are the children you work with?

Balanced Kids supports families with children ranging from pre-school age all the way through to college. Oftentimes families encounter challenging behaviors early on in adolescence that they assume are age appropriate and will eventually fade away. When the behaviors persist or reappear during pivotal times in life, Balanced Kids can offer your whole family new tools for coping and seeing results.
